Brass Fusion Continues
The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain is delighted to announce exciting plans for the second phase of the ground breaking project entitled Brass Fusion.
Brass Fusion brings both British and Asian Brass Band styles together to a multi cultural audience in the North West of England. The bands taking part in Brass Fusion are The Bollywood Brass Band, The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Rochdale Borough Youth, St. Helens Youth, Stockport Schools, Towneley High School and Wardle High School.
Brass Fusion, which is in three parts, got off to a spectacular start at the Gracie Fields Theatre in Rochdale on Saturday 29th November 2003 where Bollywood, Rochdale and Wardle bands thrilled the audience and plans are well advanced for the second leg which takes place at the King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Saturday 28th February 2004. This will see St. Helens Youth Band, Towneley High School Band and Stockport Schools Band joining Bollywood. Tickets are now on sale for this concert, priced at £4 and £6, and can be obtained by telephoning either 01254 582582 or 01223 234090.
The third and final part of Brass Fusion will be staged at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on 1st May 2004 and will bring together the combined forces of The Bollywood Brass Band, The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Rochdale Borough Youth, St. Helens Youth, Stockport Schools and Wardle High School. The grand finale concert will also see the world premier performance of a newly commissioned work for Asian and British Brass Bands by the brilliant young composer Errollyn Wallen.
Brass Fusion is being backed by generous funding by Youth Music. The artistic design of the project is in the expert hands of Elgar Howarth, Artistic Director of the NYBBGB.
Brass Fusion is the brainchild of NYBBGB Administrator Philip Biggs who said: "I am delighted after so many years of working to see such a project take place that Brass Fusion is now going to happen. I have longed for this musical and cultural happening and exchange for many years. We live in a diverse and multi-cultural society and there is a great need to enjoy and share in everyone’s music culture and background. The brass band world’s need to do this has never been greater. I so look forward to this project being the catalyst for such a crossover to take place."
Brass Fusion is funded by Youth Music.
